Joe Alvarez
Bio
Joe Alvarez joins the Chukars coaching staff this year as the primary hitting coach. The Cuban-born infielder was a third-round selection by the New York Yankees in 1974 out of St. Patrick High School in New Jersey. He would play three seasons in the Yankees, Astros and Orioles organizations. After his playing career, he would manage for seven seasons in the Dodgers organization, including back-to-back GCL Championships in 1986 & 1987. Alvarez would then go on to coach in Korea for eight seasons before returning stateside to work in the Phillies and Rays organizations. Since then, he has managed and coached for eight seasons in the Mexican League, as well as coaching in Dubai, where he met Les Lancaster.
